Wonder Project, a faith-focused independent studio, has unveiled its upcoming feature film, Flyer, a cinematic tribute to the trailblazing journey of Orville and Wilbur Wright.
Directed by Jon Gunn, known for Ordinary Angels with Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, Flyer delves into the lives of two bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio, whose innovation in powered flight reshaped human history.
“Wilbur and Orville changed the course of history, but the way they did it is just as extraordinary as their achievement,” said Gunn. “Flyer is a uniquely American story, brimming with perseverance, heart, humor, and spectacle.”
The project features an original screenplay by Emmy-winning journalist James Stolz and Peter Doyle, both of whom will also serve as executive producers. Jeremy Latcham, a seasoned producer with credits including Iron Man and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, joins as producer.
According to the official synopsis, Flyer tells the story of Orville and Wilbur Wright as they leave their bicycle shop behind to pursue their dream of becoming the first to achieve powered flight on the windy dunes of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
The Wright brothers’ upbringing in a devout Christian household shaped their values of integrity, hard work, and curiosity, traits central to their aviation breakthroughs. While their adult faith is less documented, the brothers were known for their moral discipline and principles, earning them admiration as "Christian gentlemen."
Founded in 2023 by former Netflix and YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten and filmmaker Jon Erwin, Wonder Project aims to craft stories that inspire hope and uphold enduring values. Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen, serves as an advisor to the studio.
In addition to Flyer, the studio is developing House of David, an epic series about the biblical King David, set to debut on Prime Video in early 2025. The series explores the downfall of King Saul and the rise of David, blending themes of love, conflict, and politics.
“This milestone project sets the stage for more values-driven films and series,” said Erwin. “We’re building something lasting—an independent studio that supports creatives while reaching audiences in profound ways.”
Through partnerships with mainstream networks and independent distribution, Wonder Project seeks to deliver faith-infused content to global audiences while fostering a creative hub for values-driven storytelling.
Erwin added, “Our mission is personal—we’re creating content we want in our own homes and for audiences seeking hope-filled stories.”
