Candace Owens Asserts Media Neglects Global 'Christian Holocaust'

Conservative commentator Candace Owens recently argued that global Christian persecution does not receive sufficient media attention, especially compared to the coverage of Israel. In an interview on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" last week, Owens responded to Morgan's question about her delayed reaction on social media to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,163 people, including 31 Americans, and the taking of around 240 hostages in Gaza.

Owens acknowledged the horror of the Hamas attack but expressed that the U.S. should avoid getting involved in Israeli affairs. She emphasized that the suffering of Christians worldwide is largely ignored by the media compared to the conflict in Israel.

"For whatever reason, it seems to be the circumstance that when Jewish people die in Israel, it's wall-to-wall coverage, but when Christians die all over the world, nobody talks about it," Owens stated. She criticized the media for frequently referencing World War II and Adolf Hitler while neglecting figures like Soviet official Genrikh Yagoda and events like the Bolshevik-led persecution of Christians. Owens voiced her frustration with the lack of attention given to the "Christian holocaust" happening globally.

Owens particularly highlighted the media's disregard for the slaughter of Christians in Armenia, especially in light of Israel supplying arms to Azerbaijan for its campaign to recapture Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnic Armenian enclave. She called for "actual equality" in media coverage.

Owens, who has been accused of antisemitism by figures including her former colleague Andrew Klavan, clarified that her primary concern is for Christians because of her faith. "I'm a Christian first, OK? And so my concerns are going to be with what's happening to Christians all around the world because it is us: We are the No. 1 most persecuted religion in the world."

She urged Christians to speak out against their persecution, asserting that when there is extensive media coverage of Christians being killed in places like Armenia and Nigeria, and the treatment of Christians globally, then she would be more inclined to use her platform to address issues in Israel.

Morgan acknowledged her point as "perfectly reasonable." Owens left The Daily Wire in March following a dispute with co-founder Ben Shapiro over her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Earlier this year, Owens converted to Roman Catholicism, following her husband's faith. "Recently, I made the decision to go home," she tweeted in April.
